From ‘helios’, the sun; ‘trope’, a turning of;
(flowers turning to the sun). This native of Peru
was a very popular plant in victorian times. It
grows to 120 cm high and one foot wide and flowers
profusely through the summer boasting
trusses of rich purple, sweetly-scented, butyterfly
attracting blooms. Start early indoors. Sow
seeds and lightly cover. Tr. Germ 70o-80o, Ht. 30 cm.
