SWEET SULTAN 'The Bride'Centaurea imperialis A rare and renowned variety of Sweet Sultan with 3" mounded tufts of white flowers on long stems, excellent for cutting. Sweet vanilla fragrance. SWEET PEAS Lathyrus odoratus A flower with a mystique exulted to almost angelic proportions is the heavenly sweet pea. The gardener's love affair with the Sweet Pea goes back to 1699 to the cool, mountainous pastures of Sicily where it was discovered' by an Italian monk. Seed was send to a Dr. Uvedale, a gardener and physician in England who grew it under glass. Its heady fragrance made it most desirable and after the development of several new colours and an increase in bloom size it became a much sought after cut flowers gracing the finest of tables. In the language of flowers, the sweet pea means adieu or departure. |

JASMINE TOBACCONicotiana alata grandiflora One of the most fragrant flowers we know of, it can be smelled more than 10' away as it comes into its best after the heat of the day has passed. ITALIAN LARGE LEAFED BASILOcimum basilicum Grown in the 'flowery meads' of Italy's pleasure gardens in the 1200's.
