Waltham Butternut - The standard Butternut Squash. The fruits average 25cm and 1.5 to 2 kg. Flesh is smooth and has a sweet flavour especially after 2 months storage. Plants average 4 to 5 fruits. SOIL: Rich, well drained LIGHT: Full Sun SPACING: 60cm HEIGHT: Vine MATURITY: 85 Days. PROPAGATION: Direct seed in late Spring when soil is warm (21C) Seeds will rot in cold soil. OR Start indoors 2 to 3 wks before planting out. Plant out after frost danger and weather is warm. HARVEST: Before heavy frost cut fruit from stem and leave them in the field for 4to5 days to cure. Alternately bring indoors and cure @ 27 to 32C for 3 to 5 days with ventilation. Store @ 10 to 15C. SEED COUNT: 30 plus seeds
