CLEOME - CHERRY QUEEN cleome hasseriana - Of Mediterranean origin, this member of the caper family is easy to grow and definitely will make a statement, especially when planted in a mass. The species name, hasslerana, is after the plant collector Emile Hassler. The flowers of cleome are 15 - 20 cm across but because they are open and airy, they always look graceful. Though the leaves and stalks are sticky and thorny cleome makes wonderful cut flowers. Plant them with cosmos to capture a Victorian atmosphere. Early 1800�s. Striking deep red. Good self seeder. Type: Annual Light: sun Soil: well-drained, good soil Spacing: 45cm Height: 100 to 125cm Season: summer to frost. Propagation: Direct seed in early spring.
