SQUASH - WINTER, ACORN (Table Queen) The black-green skin has heavy ribbing. They yellow flesh is thicker, dryer and sweeter then most others. For best tate and sweetness wait 2 weeks or more after harvest. Plants yield 5-6 one kg fruits. Light: Full Sun Soil: Rich, well drained Spacing: 60cm Height: Vine Propagation: Direct seed in late Spring when soil is warm (21C) (seeds will rot in cold soil) OR Start indoors 2-3 weeks before planting out. Plant out after frost danger and weather is warm. Harvest: Before heavy frost. Cut fruit from stem and leave in the field for 4-5 days to cure. OR Alternately bring indoors and cure @ 27-32C for 3-5 days with ventilation. Store @ 10-15C. SEED COUNT: Approx. 25 |
