Supporting Bees and Butterflies
Did you know that our BEES and BUTTERFLIES are finding it harder and harder to survive in the world?
Studies show that bees increase our crop yields. It has been noted that ¾
of our crops including wildflowers are pollinated by bees. Agricultural
practices, pollution and disease have decimated the bee population. We
all need to look at ways of restoring our habitats especially those near
farms. Not only will this help with crop yield, but also make honeybees
more efficient pollinators.
Did you know that the MONARCH BUTTERFLY larvae (caterpillar) eat only milkweed to survive? The eradication of milkweed plants has seriously reduced the food source for this beautiful butterfly, putting it in jeopardy of extinction. We need to re-establish the milkweed along roadsides and fence bottoms. Once the Monarch Butterfly becomes an adult it can eat the nectar from any flower. However the female only lays her eggs on the milkweed plant.
